State Capitol

State Capitol is a magnificent Greek Revival building located on State Street. The Gold leaf Dome, topped with Ceres, the goddess of agriculture, includes real gold and offers a spectacular contrast with the wooded hillside.

The Old Consititution House

Visit the site where the consitution of Vermont was originally drafted. This document was considered very innovative and radical for its times because Vermont's constitution was the first to prohibit slavery, established universal voting rights for males and created the first public school system.

Lake Champlain-Vermont's Underwater Historic Preserves

Lake Champlain was witness to history in the making. Many famous maritime battles were fought on the lake and and the relics of these ships lie at the bottom of the lake. The state of Vermont has created an underwater historical preserve, on a trial basis, which divers can enjoy. This underwater preserve is administered out of the state capital of Montpelier, VT.

Marsh Billings Rockefeller National Historical Park

This park, named for George Perkins Marsh, one of the nations first environmental thinkers at a global level, focuses on conservation history and land stewardship in America.
The property was donated by Laurence Rockefeller in 1992, to the government of the United states. Tours are available of the mansion and the surrounding large forest.

Barre Opera House

Just a short drive outside of Montpelier, in Barre, the historic Barre Opera House, built in 1886, is now in its second century of operation. The Opera House with a total of 645 seats is still very much in use today and hosts a series of performances annually, ranging from ballet to opera to other musical forms.
